On August 18, the All Japan Trucking Association published the 2024 edition of its "Actual Conditions of Wages, Working Hours, etc. in the Trucking Business."
According to the report, the average monthly wage for truck drivers was 360,300 yen, a 7.4% increase from the previous year. When the average monthly bonus is added, the total monthly wage was 404,100 yen (a 6.3% increase).
This survey, conducted from October to November 2024, targeted freight transport operators nationwide and investigated the average monthly salary paid in May, June, and July 2024, as well as working hours and welfare benefits at that time. The number of valid responses was 565 companies.
In terms of average monthly wages plus bonuses by job type, "trailer" had the highest at 460,800 yen, followed by "large," "semi-medium," "regular," and "medium." The difference in wages between towing and medium-sized vehicles was 81,500 yen in average monthly wages, and 104,500 yen when annual bonuses were included.
The average age of employees in the trucking industry has risen, with male drivers reaching 49.7 years old (compared to 49.0 years old the previous year). The average age for all occupations, including office workers, cargo handlers, and maintenance/skilled workers, for both men and women, was 48.5 years old (compared to 47.6 years old the previous year).
