On August 14, Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) launched two innovative AI-powered customs clearance support tools, "CustomsAI" and "HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) code search function," in the Asia Pacific region.

The HTS code lookup function is an industry-first solution that simplifies the process of identifying the correct HTS code required for import customs clearance into the United States. Once the customer enters a description of the item, the system automatically suggests the most appropriate HTS code along with a confidence score.

Customs AI is currently available in Australia, Guam, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the Philippines. Leveraging advanced generative AI technology, it streamlines the customs document creation process. It analyzes customer-entered information in real time and automatically generates appropriate item descriptions and corresponding HS codes (Harmonized System of Goods). The generated information can be reflected in shipping documents with a single click.

Furthermore, each proposed HS code includes a link to the official U.S. HTS Tariff Schedule, supporting content verification and accuracy checks. This system is continuously updated to flexibly adapt to the changing trade environment, helping customers efficiently manage their shipping operations while always meeting the latest customs requirements.

These tools address key challenges related to customs documentation and function as an integrated solution to simplify international trade. Specifically, they enable faster customs clearance, accurate tariff and tax estimates, reduced risk of delivery delays, and cost savings.

Salil Chali, Senior Vice President of Marketing & Customer Experience for FedEx Asia Pacific, said, "FedEx's mission is to provide customers with flexibility, efficiency, and trade expertise. By leveraging advanced digital insights and intuitive tools, we help businesses agilely adapt to change, streamline operations, and make better decisions. This innovation will not only make trade easier but also powerfully support our customers' business growth in a rapidly changing market."
