The liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier "AL ZUWAIR," ordered by a joint venture company funded by a consortium formed by Nippon Yusen, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, MISC Berhad, and China LNG Shipping (Holdings), was completed on August 18 at the HHI Ulsan Shipyard.
This is the third of 12 LNG carriers that the consortium is building for Qatar Energy, the state-owned energy company of Qatar, and it is the first time they have ordered a vessel from HHI. Also, this is the first time that Nippon Yusen Group will be managing a vessel for the consortium.
The "AL ZUWAIR" uses fuel oil and boil-off gas as fuel. It employs a state-of-the-art dual-fuel engine and air lubrication system that offer superior fuel efficiency.
The ship is equipped with a reliquefaction system that liquefies excess boil-off gas and returns it to the tank, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases (GHGs) through efficient operation.
