AdBlue plays a role in cleaning exhaust gases by breaking down nitrogen oxides contained in diesel vehicle exhaust gases into nitrogen and water. "Bio-AdBlue" uses biomass urea produced using a mass balance method as its raw material, and by partially replacing conventional petroleum-derived raw materials with biomass-derived materials, it becomes possible to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the entire product lifecycle.

The mass balance method (material balance method) refers to "a method in which, in the processing and distribution process from raw materials to products, when raw materials with certain characteristics (e.g., biomass-derived raw materials) are mixed with raw materials that do not have those characteristics (e.g., petroleum-derived raw materials), the characteristics of a portion of the product are allocated according to the amount of raw materials with those characteristics that are input" (Ministry of the Environment Bioplastics Introduction Roadmap).
