On August 21, NEC announced that it has developed robot control technology that utilizes AI to enable safe and efficient autonomous driving even in environments with many obstacles.
By utilizing NEC's proprietary AI, which has been trained with insights from multiple AI systems, the system generates optimal movement paths that take safety into consideration in real time. In internal field tests, it was confirmed that the robot's movement time could be reduced by up to 50% compared to conventional methods.

NEC aims to commercialize the technology by fiscal year 2026, and anticipates that the new technology will enable the introduction of robots in small and medium-sized logistics warehouses, factories, and retail stores where it is difficult to prepare dedicated areas for robots or secure movement routes, thereby helping to alleviate labor shortages and improve productivity.
