Mitsubishi Warehouse announced on August 25th that it will enter the grid-based battery storage business.
The grid-connected battery business involves installing large-scale battery storage systems on owned land (partially leased land), connecting them to the power grid, and trading them in the electricity market (wholesale electricity market, supply and demand adjustment market, and capacity market). Through trading, the company charges and discharges electricity, contributing to the stabilization and efficiency of the power grid (power supply network), as well as smoothing out fluctuations in renewable energy and contributing to the adjustment of electricity supply and demand.

The plan is to launch operations in two locations: Yokohama City in Kanagawa Prefecture and Honjo City in Saitama Prefecture, with a total investment of approximately 20 billion yen across the two locations.
The total output is approximately 350 MWh, which, when used in one charge-discharge cycle per day, is equivalent to the daily usage of approximately 40,000 average households.
They are also planning to expand the business to five other locations in other prefectures, and the total capacity across the seven locations is expected to be approximately 700 MWh.

Leveraging the expertise in handling large-capacity power equipment cultivated through the operation of data center buildings and other related businesses, a group company of Mitsubishi Warehouse will handle the maintenance and management of the facility.
The project period is assumed to be 20 years for each property (equivalent to the lifespan of the battery storage system).
