MOL Switch LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Group that invests in decarbonization technologies, announced on September 2nd that it has invested in Commonwealth Fusion Systems LLC (CFS), a US company involved in fusion technology, in collaboration with a consortium of 12 Japanese companies.
<Demonstration reactor under development by CFS Corporation>

CFS Corporation is a leading company in the design and development of magnetic confinement (tokamak) fusion energy reactors. The company has announced plans to build the world's first commercial fusion energy reactor, "ARC," in Virginia, USA, aiming for operation to begin in the early 2030s.
The Japanese consortium will acquire policy and regulatory information, as well as technical and commercial insights related to the development, construction, operation, and maintenance of ARC (Atomic Fusion Research) systems, from CFS's commercialization project in the United States. Furthermore, by combining the know-how and expertise of each participating company, the consortium aims for the early commercialization and industrialization of fusion energy generation in Japan.
The collaboration between the Japanese consortium and CFS Corporation is in line with the joint partnership between Japan and the United States to accelerate the development and commercialization of fusion energy generation, and embodies the strong will and growing momentum toward the early realization of commercialization in both countries.
Furthermore, in its management plan "BLUE ACTION 2035," the Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Group aims to become a social infrastructure company, planning to strengthen non-shipping sectors and make aggressive investments. In addition, in its "Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Group Environmental Vision 2.2," the group has set a goal of achieving net-zero emissions for the entire group by 2050.
