On September 19, Seino Last One Mile (SLO) announced that it views last-mile delivery, including community delivery and in-house logistics, as essential to supporting daily life, and that it will work with PostLink Alliance and HanaLogi to organize these areas and contribute to the overall quality of logistics in society.
Currently, the traditional two-category system of "parcel delivery" and "mail delivery" is insufficient, and numerous challenges arise on the ground due to diversification. SLO is taking on the challenge of creating a system to support this new area.
Regarding the characteristics of each field and the role of the SLO (Service Level Organization) business company, in the case of online supermarket delivery, the SLO business company Coconet is in charge. Online supermarket delivery is a field that requires accurate and speedy delivery of goods within a few hours of ordering. In particular, responding to peak demand times and securing a stable workforce are major challenges.
We provide end-to-end support, from coordinating with stores to last-mile operations (delivery site and related operations). Our locally rooted network of service providers and in-house quality control ensure a stable delivery service.
LOCCO, a SLO (Service Level Organization) business company, is in charge of unattended delivery. Unattended delivery is a delivery style that is completed without face-to-face interaction, which leads to a reduction in redeliveries and improved customer convenience. However, it requires meticulous attention to detail, such as managing rules for each building, preventing theft, and dealing with weather conditions.
We have created a database of delivery location information and rules for each building, ensuring that on-site staff can safely carry out unattended deliveries. We are also flexibly responding to the growing need for contactless delivery in urban areas and promoting a safe and secure unattended delivery service. Furthermore, a 2024 survey showed that approximately 10.4% of delivered goods required redelivery. LOCCO's redelivery rate is 2.8%, and by switching one delivery from a general courier service to LOCCO, it is possible to reduce CO2 emissions on average by the amount absorbed by a 30-year-old cedar tree in one month, thus providing value as an environmentally conscious service.
Conipos (small parcel delivery) is handled by Chiku Takubin Nichiyu, an SLO (Service Level Organization) business company. With the expansion of e-commerce and subscription products, there is a need for a new service that can efficiently deliver smaller, more frequent packages than standard courier services. Conipos leverages the expertise it has cultivated in meticulous delivery, sorting, and prevention of misdeliveries.
Furthermore, in order to make this new small package delivery system sustainable throughout the region, we launched the "PostLink Alliance" with local delivery companies.
PostLink Alliance is a collaborative system that brings together local delivery companies and SLOs (Service Level Authorities) to transport packages from multiple shippers through a common delivery network, thereby achieving both efficiency and quality across the entire region.
This initiative aims to revitalize the local small parcel delivery market and build a sustainable business model. This September, the network will expand to the northern Kanto and Tohoku areas, with plans to expand to the Tokai, Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu areas afterward.
Free paper distribution and local short-term jobs are handled by Living Proceed, an SLO (Service Level Organization) business company. While the market for free paper and flyer distribution as a whole is shrinking, it continues to play an important role in delivering locally relevant information. Living Proceed operates a delivery service with over 8000 "area partners" nationwide, staff deeply rooted in their local communities. These area partners not only handle distribution but also engage in various short-term jobs, working closely with local residents and focusing on the local area as their key theme.
Furthermore, the shortage of personnel to handle the last mile of delivery is a major challenge for the entire logistics industry. To address this challenge, SLO has launched the driver training program "HanaLogi." "HanaLogi" is a comprehensive program that cultivates not only the skills necessary for delivery work, but also customer service, safe driving, and communication skills with the local community.
This will alleviate the shortage of delivery personnel and cultivate locally-based professionals.
