Japan Post Group and JR East Group announced on September 24th that they will conduct a trial of "Ekipos," a service that allows customers to pick up station-purchased goods at post offices.
Based on the agreement signed by both groups on February 21, 2024, regarding "strengthening cooperation to solve social issues," the aim is to realize "transforming post offices and train stations into community hubs."
Products from some stores in "CoCoLo Niigata," a station building operated by JR East Niigata City Create, a JR East Group company, can be picked up at Niigata Taihei Post Office (Higashi Ward, Niigata City).
The service allows customers to place orders through JR East's mobile ordering service "JRE MALL Order" and have their items delivered within the region using Japan Post's inter-post office delivery service "Posucho-bin," enabling them to pick up their purchased items at a post office with a low handling fee.
By combining Japan Post's logistics network, the hub nature of post offices, and the products and services offered by the JR East Group, this initiative will enable local transportation where goods sold in station buildings and other locations can be picked up at post offices. The service trial aims to transform post offices and stations into community hubs and to realize local societies that combine shopping infrastructure with the enjoyment of daily life.
