On September 29, Kawasaki Heavy Industries announced that it had delivered the VLCC "ENERGIA VIKING" to MOL ENERGIA PTE. LTD. at Dalian COSCO Shipping Kawasaki Ship Engineering (DACKS, Dalian, China), which it jointly operates with China COSCO Shipping Corporation.

This vessel will be the Kawasaki Heavy Industries Group's first LNG-fueled VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier).
A key feature is the adoption of a newly developed bow shape that eliminates the conventional bulbous bow and increases the length of the ship at the waterline. This significantly reduces wave resistance caused by the bow wave generated during navigation, thereby improving propulsion performance.
Low fuel consumption is achieved through the use of a low-speed, ultra-long-stroke main engine and a highly efficient, large-diameter propeller.
This is the first VLCC from the Kawasaki Heavy Industries Group to be equipped with a dual-fuel main engine that can use both LNG and low-sulfur fuel oil. When using LNG fuel, it is expected to reduce emissions by approximately 25-30% for carbon dioxide (CO2), 100% for sulfur oxides (SOx), and approximately 85% for nitrogen oxides (NOx) compared to conventional heavy oil-fired main engines. VLCCs comply with EEDI Phase 3, the carbon dioxide emission regulation that will be applied to vessels contracted from fiscal year 2025 onwards.
