Teikoku Databank published its analysis results on September 30 regarding trends and forecasts for food price increases from October onwards.

In October, a total of 3024 food and beverage items saw price increases. For the full year 2025, the cumulative total of items with price increases announced up to December will reach 20,381, exceeding 20,000 for the first time in two years (the number of items and price increases are based on announcements from each company. Items that underwent multiple price increases within the year are counted as separate items. The maximum price increase rate at the time of announcement is used. "Effective price increases" due to price freezes or reductions in content are also included).

The company cited a combination of factors contributing to the price increase, including soaring raw material costs, increased production costs due to rising utility bills, rising labor costs due to labor shortages, and increased logistics costs.

Price increases related to raw materials and other commodities ("high raw material costs") accounted for 96.1% of the total, while other major factors contributing to price increases, such as "energy (utilities)" (64.3%), "packaging and materials" (62.9%), "logistics costs" (78.8%), and "labor costs" (50.2%), all accounted for more than half of the total.

In particular, both "logistics costs" and "personnel costs" have increased significantly from the previous year. Regarding "logistics costs," the company analyzes that it is facing freight rate increases due to the driver shortage, including the "2024 problem."

Looking ahead, the number of food items scheduled to see price increases in November is expected to remain below 100 as of the end of September, falling below the previous year's figure for the first time in 11 months. This suggests that the wave of price increases for food and beverages that continued throughout the year will come to a temporary halt towards the end of the year.

The total number of items with price increases throughout the year is not expected to reach the level of 2022 (25,768 items), when the wave of price increases for food and beverages intensified, and is projected to end up at around 21,000 items.
