On September 28, the methanol-fueled bulk carrier "Green Future," which is chartered by NYK Bulk Project, a Nippon Yusen Group company, received low-carbon methanol fuel directly from a bunkering vessel via a "ship-to-ship" method at Ulsan Port in South Korea.

The replenished low-carbon methanol was supplied using a "mass balance system," which assigns the characteristic of being derived from renewable raw materials to the fuel supplied in proportion to the amount of renewable raw materials input. Environmental value is added through a manufacturing process based on the use of renewable raw materials such as renewable natural gas and green hydrogen.

By using a mass balance supply system, the company has obtained "ISCC EU certification," which is the standard for sustainability and traceability of biomass and biofuels, guaranteeing reduced environmental impact and transparency in the supply chain.

"Green Future" is the first bulk carrier in the NYK Group to be equipped with a dual-fuel engine that can use both methanol and heavy oil as fuel, and it was completed in May.
