IAPH is the only international NGO that brings together port managers and port officials from around the world, established in 1955 with the aim of promoting the development of ports worldwide and fostering exchange among port stakeholders.
The project submitted for the awards uses the "Yokohama Port Decarbonization Promotion Plan," formulated in March of this year, as its theme, and introduces various collaborations and initiatives aimed at creating a carbon-neutral port in Yokohama Port.
The plan includes Yokohama City's own initiative to monitor CO2 emissions at an international standard and a decarbonization plan utilizing new technologies. It was praised for its collaborative approach, involving the public, private, and international organizations working together to tackle decarbonization.
The IAPH Sustainability Awards gather knowledge from ports around the world and promote initiatives by soliciting projects in six categories, including "environmental protection" and "digitalization," and selecting outstanding projects.
In 2025, there were 112 entries from around the world, and one port from each category was selected as the best, which was announced and awarded at the "World Ports Congress" held in Kobe City on October 8th.
