JR Freight announced on October 17th that it will revise its freight rates for both carload and containerized freight by 9% each. The changes will take effect from April 1, 2026.
Rising raw material costs, fuel costs, and labor costs continue, and expenses for maintaining and upgrading various transportation equipment, as well as safety measures, are also increasing. Although we have made various efforts to reduce costs, we have decided to raise basic freight rates because we cannot absorb the costs through management efforts alone.
Against the backdrop of the "2024 logistics problem" and a shortage of truck drivers due to an aging workforce, the environment for the logistics industry is expected to worsen, and the government is proposing measures such as revising the Logistics Efficiency Act.
JR Freight is also working to promote modal shift to rail transport by improving freight transshipment facilities within stations, strengthening its ability to handle 31ft large containers, and installing equipment to prevent uneven loading of cargo.
As a key player in modal shift, the company aims to provide sustainable services by securing labor, improving working conditions, and investing in equipment, so that it can continue to fulfill its role in freight rail transport.
