This event was held at the request of the Onomichi Police Station, which is working to reduce bicycle accidents involving the elderly. Participants learned about hazard prediction using dashcam footage and a bicycle simulator.
Participants expressed strong opinions regarding traffic safety, such as, "At intersections with poor visibility, I want to always come to a complete stop, check for safety, and then proceed."
The Komaru Traffic Foundation was established on September 9, 2013, with the aim of promoting and raising awareness of traffic safety. It conducts traffic safety classes and traffic accident prevention awareness activities, mainly at elementary schools nationwide.
Furthermore, the organization supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing opportunities for students studying Japanese abroad to present their learning achievements, and by holding Japanese composition and speech contests aimed at improving traffic safety awareness and promoting cultural exchange with Japan.
