On October 22, Penguin Solutions Japan, the Japanese subsidiary of U.S.-based Penguin Solutions (PENG), announced that its uninterrupted edge server, "Stratus ztC Edge," has been adopted for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' automated picking solution and is currently operating at Kirin Beverage's Ebina Logistics Center.

The labor shortage caused by the declining birthrate and aging population is a serious problem in the logistics sector, and has been highlighted as the "2024 problem." To address this problem, the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group has developed Japan's first solution to automate the picking process.

This is implemented on "ΣSynX (SigmaMac)," a standard platform for synchronizing and coordinating various machines. And as its controller, Penguin Solutions' "uninterrupted" edge computing "Stratus ztC Edge" was adopted as the standard platform. "Stratus ztC Edge" is a zero-touch, fault-tolerant server designed for industrial use, enabling uninterrupted operation even in environments such as warehouses where a dedicated server room cannot be installed.
The system has been fully operational at Kirin Beverage's Ebina Logistics Center since December 2024, and nine months after its launch, it has remained completely trouble-free, contributing to increased efficiency in the center's picking operations and uninterrupted operation.
