20251024gcnj - GCNJ/Supply Chain Subcommittee makes recommendations on desirable CSR procurement and sustainable procurement.

The published report, "Desirable Approaches to CSR Procurement and Sustainable Procurement: Recommendations from the Supply Chain Subcommittee," presents proposals for the future of CSR procurement and sustainable procurement, based on discussions and considerations involving a wide range of industries and numerous Japanese companies.

In the first edition of the recommendations, we defined supplier briefings, SAQ (Supplier Assessment and Quotation), and audits as the three key processes for achieving triple-win procurement. In the 2025 edition of the recommendations, while retaining the ideas of the first edition, we have decided to describe the positioning of the continuous due diligence process within the overall business activities, and to include the concepts and implementation methods of each individual process within that framework.

The "Desirable Approach to CSR Activities in Supply Chains - Proposals from the Supply Chain Subcommittee -" (First Edition of the Recommendations), published by the subcommittee in 2013, became a pioneering guide for promoting CSR procurement and sustainable procurement among Japanese companies, which were lagging behind in their response to sustainability issues at the time.

More than 10 years have passed, and progress has been made in legislation and the issuance of guidelines regarding supply chain due diligence (DD) both domestically and internationally. As a result, many companies now need to address not only human rights and labor issues in their supply chains, but also issues such as climate change and biodiversity.
