Logistics Knight Japan (LKJ), Isuzu Motors, and Fujitsu announced on October 27 that they plan to begin a pilot project in early November to build a pharmaceutical logistics platform that will centrally manage pharmaceuticals throughout the logistics network, from manufacturing sites to final delivery destinations such as pharmacies and hospitals, in order to contribute to the stable supply of pharmaceuticals in Japan.

The demonstration experiment will involve simulating joint transportation and pallet-based transportation to improve the quality and appropriate temperature control of pharmaceutical logistics, as well as to increase logistics efficiency.
The specific outline involves addressing three themes: 1. Visualizing theoretical inventory levels and transportation/storage temperatures of pharmaceuticals throughout the entire logistics network in accordance with Good Distribution Practice (GDP) guidelines for pharmaceuticals; 2. Collaborative transportation to improve logistics efficiency; and 3. Verifying the effectiveness of introducing palletized transportation to improve operational efficiency.
In planning the joint transportation, simulations will be conducted on routes for transporting domestically manufactured pharmaceuticals to pharmacies and hospitals within Hokkaido.
Each company's role is as follows: LKJ provides specialized expertise in pharmaceutical logistics; Isuzu Motors provides a system for acquiring vehicle and operational information during transport, utilizing its information platform "GATEX," which provides advanced operation management and operational support services; and Fujitsu provides elemental technologies for the platform built under the Cabinet Office's "Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP) Phase 2 Smart Logistics Services" project, as well as its Dynamic Supply Chain Management offering, which realizes a robust and flexible supply chain.
The demonstration experiment was conducted jointly by LKJ, Isuzu, Fujitsu, Transtron, and Ridgelinez, a total of five companies, and was selected as the "Pharmaceutical Logistics Platform Project" after applying to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's public offering program, "Logistics Innovation Implementation Support Project."
