On October 27, the Japan Physical Internet Center (JPIC) established the "Physical Internet Award" and began accepting applications, with the aim of promoting and expanding the use of the physical internet (PI).
PI is a system that applies the principles of the internet to logistics, sharing logistics resources such as trucks and warehouses to improve efficiency across the entire country.
JPIC is currently developing the "Physical Internet Maturity Model" (PIMM) in collaboration with industry, government, and academia to measure the degree of PI realization, aiming for completion by fiscal year 2025. The awards will be implemented this fiscal year in parallel with the development of the PIMM and will serve as a touchstone for the maturity model.
Applications will be accepted in the Social Implementation category and the Pilot Project category, and outstanding collaborative logistics and other initiatives aimed at realizing PI (Pilot Initiative) in Japan will be recognized.
Eligibility is open to companies, organizations, and groups with offices in Japan. The application deadline is December 20th (must arrive by this date). After an initial document review and final selection, outstanding initiatives will be recognized at the "Physical Internet Symposium 2026," scheduled to be held on February 26, 2026, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
