According to the second-quarter financial results for the fiscal year ending March 2026, announced by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines on November 4, net sales were 869.772 billion yen (down 3.4% year-on-year), operating profit was 71.823 billion yen (down 19.6%), ordinary profit was 114.607 billion yen (down 54.3%), and net profit attributable to parent company shareholders was 116.209 billion yen (down 53.3%).

By segment, the dry bulk business recorded sales of 2184 billion yen (down 10.3%) and ordinary profit of 1 million yen (down 98.6%).

While the Capesize bulk carrier experienced a temporary stagnation in bauxite shipments due to the rainy season in West Africa, strong iron ore shipments from Western Australia and Brazil, coupled with robust demand for maritime transport, kept freight futures prices at high levels, providing positive market conditions.

While medium- and small-sized bulk carriers such as Pananox experienced a temporary slowdown in cargo movement during the summer, market conditions remained firm, supported by increased coal imports due to the slowdown in domestic coal production in China, as well as robust cargo movements in South American grains and minor bulk goods.

Sales in the energy business were 2521 billion yen (up 1.9%), while the operating loss was 155 billion yen (down 24.6%).

Sales in the product transportation business were 2997 billion yen (down 5.1%), and the ordinary loss was 635 billion yen (down 64.7%).

For the full year, the company projects net sales of 2.39 trillion yen (down 1.4%), operating profit of 120 billion yen (down 31.1%), ordinary profit of 195 billion yen (down 63.8%), and net profit attributable to parent company shareholders of 210 billion yen (down 57.7%).
