GLP Japan announced on November 4th that it held a completion ceremony for its advanced logistics facility, "GLP Kumamoto Otsu," in Otsu Town, Kumamoto Prefecture. Kintetsu Logistics Systems will use one building as a flagship base for its semiconductor strategy in Kyushu.

"GLP Kumamoto Otsu" is a four-story, box-shaped building with a total floor area of 13,235.2 m2. It is equipped with a freight elevator and a vertical conveyor, has a floor load capacity of 1.5 t/m2, and is air-conditioned throughout the entire building.
As part of its sustainability efforts, the facility has introduced LED lighting to support the decarbonization of its tenant companies. It also plans to obtain CASBEE certification.
In terms of location, it is approximately 7km from Kumamoto Airport, approximately 11km from the Kumamoto Interchange on the Kyushu Expressway, and approximately 16km from the Mashiki Kumamoto Airport Interchange, making it an excellent base for wide-area distribution covering the entire Kyushu region.
Located near a semiconductor industrial park where Taiwanese semiconductor company TSMC and Tokyo Electron are concentrated, the area is in high demand for logistics facilities to store semiconductor-related components and precision machinery.
They maintained close communication with Kintetsu Logistics from the land acquisition stage, and decided to use the site as their flagship base due to its excellent location at the junction of the semiconductor industrial park and Kumamoto Airport.
According to GLP Japan, the economic ripple effect from semiconductor-related companies establishing a presence and investing in Kumamoto Prefecture is projected to amount to a cumulative 11.2 trillion yen over the 10-year period from 2022 to 2031.
Furthermore, the large-scale investments triggered by TSMC's entry into the region are spreading throughout Kyushu, and the economic ripple effect from related capital investments is estimated to exceed 23 trillion yen in total, prompting GLP Japan to accelerate the development of logistics facilities in the Kyushu area.
