The conference, which began in 2020, was held for the sixth time. More than 500 people from 70 maritime-related companies around the world gathered, and a total of 20 people from the Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Group participated, including female employees from their in-house crewing company.
Among the speakers were Animesh Hore, General Manager of Global Maritime Resources, and Naomi Matsushita, the first female captain to serve on a ship for a major Japanese shipping company, who delivered messages praising the contributions and achievements of women in the shipping industry.
The female sailors in the group also shared their experiences and the appeal of their careers at sea, deepening their interactions with the participants.
During the conference, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines also hosted the "MOL Women Seafarers' Conference," the first event of its kind to support networking among female seafarers. This initiative aimed to provide psychological support in the often isolating environment on board and to encourage the building of networks among seafarers.
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines positions diversity, equity, and inclusion as "new driving forces for growth" and has set a goal of increasing the proportion of female seafarer candidates to 35% by 2035.
