Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) announced on November 7 that it has strengthened its network in Southeast Asia to meet growing trade demand within Asia and to improve global access, transport capacity, and transport speed for its customers.
FedEx has launched a new direct cargo service connecting its Asia Pacific hub, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, with Penang International Airport in Malaysia. Five flights per week (Monday to Friday) using Boeing 767 freighters will provide dedicated transport capacity to Penang. This will allow customers to receive imported cargo an hour earlier, contributing to increased efficiency in supply chains across a wide range of industries.
In addition, the pickup deadline for shipments from Kuala Lumpur to Asia in the Klang Valley region of Malaysia will be extended by one hour, providing greater flexibility to local customers.
These network enhancements are part of FedEx's long-term commitment to strengthening transportation capabilities across Asia. FedEx recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Penang Development Corporation (PDC) in Malaysia to develop a logistics facility of approximately 10 square feet within the upcoming Penang International Logistics Aeropark (PILA).
The total investment is 4600 million ringgit (approximately 14 billion yen), and the project aims for completion in 2028. It is intended to strengthen the logistics infrastructure of the ASEAN region and accelerate the flow of intra-regional trade.
Furthermore, FedEx has added five weekly Boeing 767 freighter flights between Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport. This will increase shipping capacity to Bangkok and improve access to destinations worldwide, including the United States, via Singapore's South Pacific hub. Thai customers will be able to deliver cargo more reliably and quickly to markets both within and outside the Asia Pacific region.
