According to the financial results for the second quarter (interim period) of the fiscal year ending March 2026, announced by Seino Holdings on November 12, net sales were 398.559 billion yen (up 20.2% year-on-year), operating profit was 18.101 billion yen (up 38.4%), ordinary profit was 18.495 billion yen (up 40.5%), and net profit attributable to parent company shareholders was 10.757 billion yen (up 67.2%).
Looking at the breakdown by segment, the transportation business generated sales of 308.925 billion yen (up 28.3%) and operating profit of 12.201 billion yen (up 67.0%).
While the volume of cargo handled in Japan stagnated due to factors such as a slowdown in domestic personal consumption caused by rising prices, the company leveraged its nationwide route network and worked to secure cargo volume by expanding its chartered and logistics businesses. Furthermore, it focused on collecting appropriate freight rates, particularly in the long-distance and heavy-weight cargo segments, where it has a strong advantage. The new consolidation of MD Logistics also had a positive impact.
On the one hand, the company has made efforts to optimize costs by optimizing its operational system in accordance with the volume of cargo handled. However, delays in hiring due to the increase in retirees and the resulting restrictions on overtime work due to the "2024 problem" have led to a shortage of in-house drivers needed to maintain network quality, resulting in increased costs for outsourced and contracted vehicles.
However, seeing the "2024 problem" as an opportunity for transformation, the company has accelerated efforts to improve efficiency across the entire industry, such as joint operation of trunk line transportation across company boundaries and mutual complementarity of transportation in inefficient areas, while also striving to ensure long-term and continuous transportation quality.
For the full year, the company projects net sales of 8137 billion yen (up 10.4%), operating profit of 376 billion yen (up 25.8%), ordinary profit of 383 billion yen (up 36.2%), and net profit attributable to parent company shareholders of 220 billion yen (up 14.3%).
