Prologis announced its "Global Supply Chain Trends for Fiscal Year 2026" on November 12.
The survey results revealed three transformative factors that are reshaping global supply chains: energy reliability, artificial intelligence (AI), and location. These three factors are driving the transformation of global supply chains. Furthermore, "resilience"—that is, building adaptable and sustainable networks—has emerged as a new top priority.
In terms of energy reliability, approximately 90% of companies experienced some form of energy supply disruption in the past year, such as price fluctuations or power outages due to weather. As a result, many executives are concerned about a stable power supply, with 70% saying they "fear power outages more than any other factor." However, less than one-third of companies have advanced power backup systems. Looking ahead, 90% of companies said they "are willing to pay additional costs for locations with reliable energy infrastructure."
Regarding artificial intelligence (AI), approximately 7% of companies have currently implemented AI at an advanced or transformative level, particularly in the areas of quality control and risk detection. It is predicted that by 2030, AI will handle the majority of decision-making in supply chains.
Regarding location, regionalization (optimization at the regional level) is accelerating. Distribution to major cities and consumption areas has long been a critical challenge for supply chains. Although the era of globalization and offshoring lasted for several decades, currently about 60% of executives predict that "regional optimization of supply chains will progress by 2030." In fact, more than three-quarters of companies have already established or are in the process of establishing regional networks, with particularly strong development around consumption areas. Currently, "energy reliability (40%)" is the most important factor for companies when selecting business locations, surpassing "labor costs (36%)," which was emphasized during the era of globalization.
This survey is an independent annual survey conducted jointly by Prologis and the US research firm The Harris Poll, and this is its second iteration. The survey will be conducted in August 2025, targeting more than 1800 corporate executives in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, India, China, and Mexico.
The survey was conducted from August 10th to 15th, 2025, and targeted 1816 executives from companies with 250 or more employees (USA: 507, UK: 268, Germany: 270, India: 258, China: 255, Mexico: 258).
