On December 5, Mitsubishi Foods announced that its subsidiary Best Logistics Partners (BLP) had started operations in October at a joint confectionery logistics center in Itakura-machi, Ora-gun, Gunma Prefecture, in collaboration with Niigata Transport, a subsidiary of Kameda Seika.
<Confectionery Joint Logistics Center Launched>
By operating Mitsubishi Foods' wholesale business's DC center and Niigata Transport's joint distribution center within the same building in a warehouse of approximately 5950 m2 (1800 tsubo) that BLP has a contract for, the company aims to improve the efficiency of confectionery logistics.
<Building a scheme for efficiency>
This initiative is expected to reduce the number of delivery vehicles from manufacturers to wholesalers by approximately 300 per year compared to conventional methods, resulting in an estimated annual reduction of approximately 14 tons of CO2 emissions.
Furthermore, by consolidating warehouse operations within the adjacent logistics center under Niigata Transport, the aim is to share the warehouse workers and facilities necessary for both companies' logistics centers, thereby reducing initial and running costs.
Furthermore, the two companies will unify their delivery vehicles and routes, leading to improved vehicle utilization rates.
<Introducing a small-package shipping system for retailers>
<Palletized and ready for storage>
Furthermore, a small-package shipping system has been introduced within the warehouse to improve the productivity of picking individual items, and palletized logistics have been promoted. Moving forward, both companies plan to strengthen their efforts to achieve vertical integration of logistics between manufacturers and wholesalers in the confectionery logistics sector, where bulk loading and unloading are common, in order to further improve efficiency and expand logistics.
