Gion, a company that operates a comprehensive logistics business, announced on December 5th that it held its first "Driver Contest" on November 25th with the aim of improving company-wide safety awareness, enhancing drivers' driving skills, and reducing accidents.
The event was held at the company's base in Kanagawa Prefecture, "Gion Atsugi Center," with nine representative drivers selected from various locations across the country participating. The event consisted of a practical skills competition and a safety lecture in the morning, followed by a written exam in the afternoon, and an overall evaluation was conducted.

The practical test was conducted on a "octopus pot course," where participants used a 4-ton truck to enter a narrow, rectangular space with only one entrance and exit, then reversed direction while maneuvering to exit while moving forward. This tested the precise sense of vehicle width and advanced vehicle handling skills required of professional drivers.
The company aims to achieve an accident rate of 5% or less (number of accidents / number of vehicles owned) and is continuously working on safe operation, including introducing AI dashcams to its trucks and holding forklift competitions. This contest is part of those efforts.
