Daiwa House Industry and Nippon Transcity announced on December 5th that their "Mie Asahi Logistics Center" in Asahi Town, Mie Prefecture, received a special award at the "4th ABINC Awards" hosted by the Biodiversity Coexistence Promotion Council.

The Mie Asahi Logistics Center is a logistics facility that takes biodiversity into consideration, constructed by Daiwa House Industry and acquired by Japan Transcity.

Among the facilities that have received "ABINC certification," a system for third-party evaluation and certification of biodiversity conservation efforts, this facility was evaluated for "having many considerations for animal habitats in its planning, which can serve as a model for others."

The facility is a three-story building with a total floor area of 64,130 square meters. The plan involves conducting a natural environment survey of the plants, birds, and insects inhabiting the site and its surroundings, and developing the facility in a way that harmonizes with the surrounding environment and takes into consideration the biodiversity of the region, as well as planning community coexistence activities.

The development plan takes into consideration the local ecosystem, selecting plants from native species such as sawtooth oak, mountain cherry, azalea, and Japanese bush clover. As the area is close to the habitat of the little ringed plover, which is designated as a near-threatened species by Mie Prefecture, the area was also prepared with sand and pebbles to improve the nesting environment for the little ringed plover.

Furthermore, as part of community coexistence activities, they collaborated with local residents. They released creatures such as medaka and loaches, which inhabit the surrounding rice paddies and waterways, into a biotope area with a waterside environment that was developed on the premises.

To ensure the long-term continuation of conservation efforts, we also conduct nature observation events and environmental education programs.
