On October 30, Gion and Asahi Logistics held a joint study session called "Cross-Style Competition," involving the two logistics companies.
The two companies are competitors, both primarily focused on food logistics. Despite this competitive relationship, opportunities for them to share their expertise and on-the-ground knowledge and engage in frank information exchange are extremely rare.
The theme of this session is "How can we promote the recruitment and retention of personnel in response to the severe labor shortage in the logistics industry, and how can we create a more employee-friendly work environment?"
Approximately 39 mid-career employees from both companies participated. They were divided into groups and discussed the issues, each bringing their own perspectives from their respective workplaces. The discussions were lively in every group, and challenges and improvement proposals were raised one after another, transcending differences in position and company.
Group A made proposals focusing on education, evaluation, and interpersonal relationships to improve the retention of new employees and enhance work efficiency. Specific suggestions included standardizing work processes, strengthening communication, and establishing systems to support inexperienced employees.
The G Group has adopted the theme of "Creating a workplace where women want to work" and has announced concrete proposals for improving the environment to promote the retention of diverse talent, especially women. These proposals include "Introducing reduced working hours," "Establishing on-site childcare facilities," "Developing flexible work arrangements," "Expanding employee benefits," and "Creating a comfortable working environment."
While other groups also offered a variety of proposals, the discussions that stood out were those based on real-world issues from the field, such as "flexible work systems (expansion of part-time work and spot work like Timee)," "making performance evaluations more transparent," and "creating a workplace where women and diverse talent can work comfortably."
