On December 12, Yusen Logistics announced that it had received certification from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets (Scope 1, 2, and 3).
The Social Security Tribunal (SBTi) is an international organization that evaluates GHG emission reduction targets set by companies and organizations based on scientific evidence, in accordance with the Paris Agreement adopted in 2015. Yusen Logistics set targets toward its group environmental goal of "achieving net-zero emissions for all services by fiscal year 2050" and was certified.
Specifically, for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, the goal is to reduce GHG emissions by 45% by FY2030 compared to FY2022 levels. For Scope 3 (Category 4) emissions, the goal is to reduce GHG emissions by 61.07% by FY2033 compared to FY2023 levels.
To date, Yusen Logistics has been working on various initiatives, including the introduction of EV trucks, the use of alternative fuels, the installation of LED lighting and solar panels at its logistics centers, and the provision of "Alternative Fuel" with assigned environmental value. These steady efforts and the feasibility of their plans were recognized.
