Five companies—Bourbon, Fuji Oil, Senko, Chuetsu Transport, and Japan Freight Railway (JR Freight)—announced on December 18th that they have begun rail transport of containers using 31-foot refrigerated containers.

The five companies are working to build a sustainable logistics network by actively promoting modal shift and larger containers, aiming to reduce environmental impact and solve logistics challenges such as driver shortages, and are also improving logistics efficiency through collaboration with other companies.
In this context, this round-trip rail transport initiative was launched as part of an effort to "build a sustainable logistics network." A 31-foot refrigerated container previously used to transport Bourbon products from Niigata to the Kansai region will be repurposed to transport Fuji Oil products back to Niigata.
Chuetsu Transport will handle transportation from Niigata to Kansai, Senko will handle transportation from Kansai to Niigata, and JR Freight will handle the freight rail transport portion. This will allow Bourbon to make effective use of return transport (container transfer), and Fuji Oil will be able to consolidate trunk line transport and reduce the burden on truck drivers.
The five companies stated that they will continue to work together to build a sustainable logistics network and contribute to solving societal challenges.
