The "SAGAWA Hands-Free Service" provides logistics services at locations frequented by tourists in the tourism and leisure market. The service includes "luggage storage," "same-day delivery," and "delivery of courier packages," and the "luggage storage" service is now available for online advance reservations.
Up until now, Sagawa Express has been working to solve social issues related to overtourism, such as traffic congestion that has worsened with the increase in foreign tourists visiting Japan, and the burden of travel due to carrying luggage.
As part of this effort, they offered a "luggage storage" service, but the increase in tourists led to challenges such as "queues and waiting times," "the burden of procedures involving handwritten applications and on-site payments," and "language and procedural hurdles for foreign visitors to Japan."
This new online pre-booking system addresses these challenges by implementing measures such as "online payment," "reduced procedures using QR codes," and "support for four languages: Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean."
The service has already launched in trial stores since April 1st, and the official release to participating stores nationwide is scheduled for April 27th.
