On June 10, Yusen Logistics announced that it had begun arranging transportation for the entire route of the round-trip transportation project being jointly implemented by Nestlé Japan and Kikkoman Foods.
In this initiative, seasoning products shipped from Kikkoman Foods N-DC (Nagareyama City, Chiba Prefecture) are transported by domestic vessel from Chiba Port to Sakai-Senboku Port, and then delivered to Kikkoman Foods Takasago DC (Takasago City, Hyogo Prefecture).
Afterward, beverage products are loaded onto the same vehicle at Nestlé Japan's Himeji factory (Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture), and then transported again to Chiba by domestic shipping.
This is a round-trip transport route, involving delivery to Nestlé Japan's Noda Logistics Center (Noda City, Chiba Prefecture) and then returning to Kikkoman Foods' N-DC (National Distribution Center).
By combining cargo from two food manufacturers, an efficient circular transportation system between east and west was created. Domestic shipping is utilized for long-distance transport, promoting modal shift through an optimal combination with land transport.
By implementing round-trip transportation, the aim is to consolidate transportation that was previously done individually, reduce empty vehicle return trips, and make more effective use of transportation resources.
NYK Logistics handled everything from designing the transportation routes and arranging domestic vessels to coordinating the entire operation, including land transport, and built a smooth transportation system through collaboration with all related companies.
Given the challenges of driver shortages and the need to reduce environmental impact, the company intends to continue promoting the use of domestic shipping and multimodal transport.
Kikkoman Foods and Nestlé Japan begin joint transportation using RORO ships.
