Nippon Yusen will be holding tours of car carriers, tugboat rides, ship handling simulator experiences, and talk sessions by active navigators and engineers at the "Umi Expo 2026" marine event to be held in Yokohama on August 8th and 9th.
"Umi Haku" is an event organized by the Yokohama Marine City Council, and this year marks its 11th anniversary.
The event is held with the aim of deepening people's understanding of the allure of the sea and the shipping industry. The venues are the Yokohama City Hall Atrium, Nippon Maru Memorial Park, and the area around Osanbashi Hall and Osanbashi Pier. Admission is free.
On both days, Nippon Yusen will hold a program at the Yokohama City Hall Atrium where participants can experience a ship handling simulator with the support of active ocean-going seafarers. Additionally, on August 9th, they will host a stage event where active navigators and engineers will introduce their work and life on board a ship.
At Osanbashi Pier, a car carrier ship approximately 200 meters long will be open to the public. Activities will include a loading/unloading experience, a display of life rafts, and a stamp rally. There is a limit of 1700 general participants, and pre-registration is required.
In addition, Shin Nippon Marine Co., Ltd., a group company, will offer a ride experience on a tugboat that assists in the docking and undocking of large ships, introducing the role that ships play in ports.
Details about "Umi Expo 2026" and how to apply for each program are available on the official website.
