On July 27, Tsubakimoto Chain announced that, in order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, it has signed a virtual PPA (Virtual Power Purchase Agreement) with ORIX and Toshiba, and will promote the decarbonization of its electricity supply using renewable energy starting in fiscal year 2026.
The combined annual power generation from both companies is projected to be approximately 15 GWh, which will lead to an annual reduction of approximately 7000 tons of CO2 emissions.
The virtual PPA introduced this time is a system for purchasing "environmental value (the value of electricity that does not emit CO2)" generated by renewable energy over the long term.
Tsubakimoto Chain will continue to receive electricity from power companies as before, but will only purchase the "environmental value" of renewable energy. The acquired "environmental value" will be applied to the electricity used at the Saitama Plant, which is the Tsubaki Group's environmental model factory.
At the Saitama factory, approximately 58% of its electricity consumption is already generated from renewable energy sources through solar power generation and the introduction of carbon-free electricity. The company plans to gradually expand its virtual Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and work towards extending this to other business locations.
