In addition, the number of items handled increased in other growth areas such as physical commerce and the chilled goods sector, due to initiatives such as the expansion of the number of locations.
While the average unit price remains lower than the previous year due to factors such as an increase in the proportion of small packages, we are maintaining our policy of collecting appropriate freight charges through price negotiations, and unit prices related to cross-border e-commerce have improved compared to the previous year.
The logistics business reported sales of 51.099 billion yen (down 0.5%) and operating profit of 1.935 billion yen (down 2.0%).
Profitability improved in cold chain logistics due to increased volume and progress in collecting appropriate fees, while ambient temperature logistics faced upfront costs due to the launch of new projects. Furthermore, the overall logistics business saw a decrease in revenue and profit compared to the same period last year, due to the exclusion of one consolidated subsidiary from the scope of consolidation during the previous third quarter. However, performance remained strong against the plan, driven primarily by cold chain logistics.
The global logistics business reported sales of 112.728 billion yen (up 127.9%) and operating profit of 2.724 billion yen (up 1947.8%).
Revenue and profit increased due to the consolidation effect of Morrison Express Worldwide Corporation (Morrison), which joined the group in the previous consolidated fiscal year, and the strong progress of the air and sea freight forwarding businesses. In air transport, cargo volume remained steady, supported by demand mainly for semiconductors and electronic components.
Regarding freight rates, the market performed well due to factors such as rising rates resulting from a tightening of supply and demand in the air cargo market. In addition, in maritime transport, the volume of cargo handled exceeded the previous year's level due to factors such as an expansion of operations, mainly with existing customers. Freight rates rose to levels higher than the previous year due to factors such as a tightening of the supply and demand for shipping capacity, resulting from disruptions in transportation routes.
For the full year, the company projects net sales of 1,635 billion yen (up 5.8%), operating profit of 92 billion yen (up 7.5%), ordinary profit of 90 billion yen (up 3.5%), and net profit attributable to parent company shareholders of 59 billion yen (up 1.6%).
