On August 19, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry began accepting applications for the third round of demonstration projects aimed at promoting energy conservation and the transition to non-fossil fuel energy in domestic shipping. The application period is until September 9 (applications must be received by 5 p.m.).
The program provides subsidies to domestic shipping operators and other businesses, covering up to half of the eligible expenses, including equipment costs, design and construction costs, and verification costs necessary for implementation.
The demonstration project aims to improve the energy efficiency of ships by combining "hard measures" such as energy-saving hull designs, high-efficiency propellers, and high-efficiency engines with "soft measures" such as optimizing operational and scheduling plans.
In addition to energy conservation, projects aiming to transition to non-fossil energy sources by introducing hydrogen fuel cells, batteries, and other technologies are also eligible.
