On September 29, Kokuyo announced that it had begun construction on the "(tentative name) Kokuyo New Shiga Distribution Center" in Aisho-cho, Shiga Prefecture. This will be the company's largest logistics facility to date, with an investment of 176 billion yen. Completion is scheduled for February 2029.
By reorganizing our nationwide logistics network and establishing a new distribution center to handle core functions, we aim to enhance our supply system, respond to diversifying product needs, and reduce logistics costs.
The building employs a unique low-rise structure to improve the efficiency of loading and unloading and reduce waiting times for drivers.
Specifically, by optimizing the flow of movement within the facility to secure a large loading/unloading space and installing dedicated ramps that allow large trucks to directly access the second floor of the warehouse, we aim to streamline loading and unloading operations and minimize vehicle waiting times. This will improve the working environment for drivers and help build a sustainable logistics network.
Furthermore, as a sustainable logistics hub aimed at coexisting with nature and local communities, the company is working on the "Echigawa Riverside Forest Restoration Project," which aims to preserve and pass on the rich ecosystem of the adjacent Echigawa River basin. The project will strive to preserve and create habitats for organisms, including the rare Japanese harvest mouse, which inhabits the region, and will also introduce environmentally friendly measures such as solar power generation.
The Kokuyo Group states that through the development of the "(tentative name) Kokuyo New Shiga Distribution Center," it will promote the creation of a sustainable supply chain and pursue the ideal form of a next-generation logistics hub that is in harmony with local communities and the natural environment.
