Yusen Logistics announced on September 29 that its UK subsidiary, Yusen Logistics (UK), has opened a Sustainable Distribution Center (SDC) in Northampton, UK.
Located with excellent access to the major M1 motorway and rail freight network, the facility boasts a total floor area of 110,647 m2 and a storage capacity of approximately 236,000 pallets. As a logistics hub that combines sustainability with cutting-edge automation technology, it will support the growth of contract logistics businesses in the UK.
The facility's main features include automated warehouse systems (AS/RS), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), and four-way pallet shuttles, aiming for efficient logistics operations.
The aim is to provide logistics space that can meet the needs of various industries, including e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, and retail, and it also includes a temperature-controlled area to accommodate healthcare logistics.
Furthermore, the facility is designed with sustainability at its core, incorporating various environmentally friendly features such as solar power generation equipment, rainwater harvesting systems, electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, low-carbon operating technologies, and resource-efficient operating processes.
While providing excellent service, they are also working to reduce their environmental impact. They hope that the establishment of this base will also contribute to job creation, economic development, and investment promotion in the region.
