NTT Logisco announced on September 30th that it has begun offering a "daily and package-type shipment forecasting function" as an add-on service to its "Smart Rip (delivery leveling solution)," which automatically generates replenishment instructions for stores and other locations.
This system predicts daily shipment volumes for each packaging type, such as pallets, cases, and individual items. It aims to improve the accuracy of shipment volume forecasts and streamline logistics center operations for retailers and other businesses handling diverse product types and shipping to stores and regional distribution centers.
The key feature is that, unlike conventional shipping forecasts which primarily focus on the "total number of shipments," this system forecasts the "number of shipments per package type," allowing for an estimate of the actual workload incurred at the logistics center.
In addition to the demand forecast data for each store and regional logistics center automatically generated by "Smart Reply," this function takes into account factors such as product characteristics, characteristics of the destination store, time elapsed since the start of sales, and seasonal factors to calculate the "number of shipments by package type," which is the practical unit of logistics operations.
This function optimizes the entire logistics process by being provided in conjunction with NTT Logisco's logistics operations. By linking shipment forecast results for each package type with WES (Warehouse Operations Support System), it streamlines equipment operation, personnel allocation, and shipment preparation at logistics centers, leading to increased productivity and cost reduction.
