NYK Group Americas Inc. (NGA), the Americas regional headquarters of the Nippon Yusen Group, will open a Silicon Valley branch in Sunnyvale, California, in October.

The company will strengthen its business development capabilities in the Americas region and explore cutting-edge technologies and new business opportunities that are expected to have synergies with the group's existing businesses, such as AI, digital, energy, and decarbonization.

The Silicon Valley branch builds networks with startups, venture capital firms, research institutions, and established companies. In addition to gathering information on promising technologies and business models, it explores commercialization through proof-of-concept experiments, business partnerships, and investments.

By combining the NYK Group's ship fleet, logistics network, and customer base with the technologies and business opportunities discovered locally, the company aims to strengthen the competitiveness of its existing businesses and create new businesses originating from the Americas.

Yutaka Ikeda, Executive Officer and CEO of NYK Group Americas and head of the NYK Group's Americas region, commented, "In the United States, new technologies and business models that are changing the way industries and societies operate, including AI, digital technology, and energy, are emerging one after another. NGA will serve as a starting point for business development in the Americas region, and by combining the knowledge and business opportunities gained locally with the strengths of our group, we aim to create new value and businesses originating from the Americas."
