NIPPON EXPRESS Holdings announced on October 2nd that Nippon Express had urgently transported vegetable seeds, including carrots and broccoli, as part of its support for the areas affected by the 2026 Kumamoto earthquake, in order to aid in agricultural recovery. The operation was carried out under contract from Sumika Agritech.
Early August is a crucial period for planting autumn vegetables, and missing the planting season would have serious consequences for farmers' livelihoods and the recovery of local agriculture.
Therefore, the day after the earthquake, Sumika Agritech decided to supply seeds to support farmers in the affected areas in continuing their farming operations and the early recovery of regional agriculture.
Nippon Express received the urgent request on the same day and immediately arranged for a vehicle. The truck departed from Osaka Prefecture on July 31 and transported 120 cases of seeds to Kikuchi City, Kumamoto Prefecture on August 1 using a single 10-ton truck.
The scale of the project is equivalent to approximately 120 hectares of cultivated land, and the aim is to facilitate the early resumption of agriculture.
