Tokyo Distribution Center (TRC) "Background of Establishment"

From the late 30s onward, the concentration of population in the Tokyo metropolitan area due to rapid economic growth and the phenomenal increase in automobiles led to a significant deterioration of traffic conditions around the city center. As a result, the business activities of those involved in distribution, such as wholesalers, were severely restricted. To alleviate this situation, the government decided to take the development of distribution infrastructure as a national policy and enacted the "Law Concerning the Development of Distribution Business Districts" in 41. In response, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government designated Heiwajima in Ota Ward, Tokyo, as the "Southern Distribution Business Park" in 43, and put forward the policy of a distribution center concept for the Tokyo metropolitan area. Against this backdrop, with the active support of the government, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the business community, "Tokyo Distribution Center Co., Ltd." was established in 42 with the aim of operating large-scale logistics facilities.
